Baltimore Ravens @ San Diego Chargers

BAL 14, SD 34

Season 2011 · Week 15 · Dec 18, 2011

Qualcomm Stadium — San Diego, CA

In a late-season matchup with massive playoff implications, Nick Novak provided a moment that, at least on the scoreboard, didn't matter at all. Nick Novak kicked a 37 yard attempt off the upright, leaving the score at 31-7 in favor of the Chargers (who would go on to win the game handily). The game would end up costing Baltimore the #1 seed. Instead of hosting the AFC Championship, the Ravens traveled to New England as the #2 seed, where they fell to the eventual Super Bowl runners-up in a 3-point heartbreaker. But while we're speculating, Al Michaels is reminiscing: "It hits the upright and is no good. This is what my old partner, John Madden, used to call a doink"
