Dawson is one of the better kickers to be associated with a famous (or infamous) doink. At the close of the 4th quarter, Dawson lined up a 51 yard attempt that was initially ruled no good on the field. After discussion on the field, the call was reversed and points awarded to the Browns, sending the 30-30 game to overtime. On the first drive of extra time, Dawson cleanly chipped in a 33 yarder to seal the win over a division rival, capping a day that saw him contribute 15 of his team's 33 points. The following year, the NFL passed the following rule:
Whether a field goal or Try attempt crossed above the crossbar and inside the uprights is reviewable, but only if the ball crosses the plane of the goal post below the top of the uprights, or if the ball touches anything. - Rule 15, Section 3, Article 11, Item 3

In a late-season matchup with massive playoff implications, Nick Novak provided a moment that, at least on the scoreboard, didn't matter at all. Nick Novak kicked a 37 yard attempt off the upright, leaving the score at 31-7 in favor of the Chargers (who would go on to win the game handily). The game would end up costing Baltimore the #1 seed. Instead of hosting the AFC Championship, the Ravens traveled to New England as the #2 seed, where they fell to the eventual Super Bowl runners-up in a 3-point heartbreaker. But while we're speculating, Al Michaels is reminiscing:
"It hits the upright and is no good. This is what my old partner, John Madden, used to call a doink"

In 2018, Norwegian rookie undrafted kicker Kaare Vedvik looked the part of a starting NFL kicker. Kaare went 9 of 9 on extra points and 8 of 9 on field goals, and his lone miss was from 50+. He completed an impressive preseason, wherein his worst kick against the visiting Redskins was an extra point that bounced in off the upright.
In the days following this game, Kaare was the victim of an off-the-field assault, which led to him missing the remainder of his rookie year on the non-football injury list. His 2018 preseason got off to a promising start as well, leading to him being traded from the Ravens to the Vikings. Kaare spent 2 preseason games in Minnesota before ultimately being waived after being unable to re-capture the magic of his rookie year.
