· Jan 13, 2008 · Season 2007, Divisional
Doinks are an odd thing. Sometimes, the doinks are almost lab built to achieve maximum chaos, other times, the setup is far more benign and common. Far less noteworthy, at least typically, is what follows on the field. Announcers shape the story of a doink and define the moment as it will be remembered for all time. In this case, the commentators took a back seat as Bob Sanders stole the spotlight, earning a 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for his showing. Sometimes, doinks do show up on the stat sheet.

This doink is the yin to 28-3's yang - in the closing seconds of the first half, Mike Nugent ricochets through the Bengals' final points for the day, as Andrew Luck and co. would nail the coffin shut for the scrappy Dalton-led Bengals (despite only being down by 3 after this kick). The truth is that this was never going to be a competitive game - 2 of Cincy's top 3 receivers were backup running backs (Bernard and Burkhead) - to say nothing of the 27-0 regular season blanking of the Bengals by the Colts. Maybe the doink here is best seen as TILT on a pinball machine - the game is over whether or not the ball makes it through.
